Jeep Trek: Paris to NYC “The Long Way” Take 2!

January 5, 2010

A while back, we posted about a group of German Adventurers who were attempting a trek for Paris to NYC, “the long way” in Jeep Wrangler RubiconsThis hearty crew was forced to shut down the expedition in early 2009 due to the horrific Siberian Winter.  Bogged down by countless snowstorms and mechanical failures, the team was delayed long enough to prevent them from crossing the Bering Strait into Alaska.  According to the Toledo Blade , our brave adventurers are back at it:

“The German adventurers attempting to drive two modified Toledo-built Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicons from Paris to New York the long way have restarted their journey after a nine-month hiatus in western Siberia.

Extreme Events founder Matthias Jeschke and his team departed from Egvekinot, on the coast of the Bering Sea’s Anadyrski Gulf in southeastern Russia, on Dec. 29. That location was where the team suspended its journey March 26, because of poor weather and mechanical breakdowns. The team had traveled 18,000 miles from Paris eastward across Europe and Asia. The original plan was to cross the frozen Bering Strait, drive into Alaska, into Canada and then across the northern United States and reach New York City and complete the 27,000-mile trip last spring. The two Rubicons will attempt to reach the village of Uelen – on the Russian side of the Bering Strait – by the end of January before attempting to cross the strait via an ice bridge, using outrigger pontoons attached to the vehicles as a backup. The expedition’s schedule calls for the team to visit Toledo – where the Wranglers were made – on or about June 1, on their way to a June 11 expedition end in New York City.”

Chrysler upping production to meet increasing demand!

August 21, 2009

You knew it had to be coming.  It’s Summer and people want Jeep Wranglers.  Unfortunately, after Chrysler’s Chapter 11 proceedings, new JK body-style Wranglers are tough to come by.  As I look out the window at the Jeep Dealership next door, I can count exactly ZERO new Wranglers on the lot.  What’s a Jeeper in need of a new Wrangler to do?  In the first good news from Jeep in a while, Bloomberg.com is reporting that Chrysler is boosting 2nd-half production to fulfill demand

“Chrysler plans to run two plants on overtime and is operating a third shift at another factory to restock dwindled inventory on dealer lots…Chrysler has scheduled overtime at its Dodge Ram truck plant in Warren, Michigan, and a plant in Toledo, Ohio, that makes the Jeep Wrangler sport-utility vehicle.”

So hold on just a little bit longer, folks.  Hopefully we’ll have a whole fleet of new Wranglers heading to a dealership near you (that made the cut) faster than you can say Sergio Marchionne!

We carry all kinds of Wrangler Accessories for your JK’s (as well as YJ’s &TJ’s), so check us out for Jeep Tire Covers, Wrangler Floor Mats, Jeep Grab Handles, and all kinds of other cool Jeep Stuff at www.JeepWorld.com!

Jeepin’ in the USVI

Goats block the path of our Jeep Wrangler JK. Coral Bay, St. John USVI

Sorry for the lack of posts over the past month or so.  Between our super-busy holiday season at JeepWorld.com and a sibling’s wedding in St. John, USVI it was a wild December.  The USVI, St. John in particular, is still a bit of a rugged and wild place.  The roads are narrow, steep, slippery, and often come with goats or donkeys blocking your way making this a perfect place for Jeeps.

Jeeps are everywhere in the USVI.  Whether rentals to tourists or driven by locals, the majority of the vehicles we saw down there were Jeeps.   The rental JK Wranglers with 8,000 miles on them may as well have had 800,000 miles on them.  The roads of St. John encourage the pounding of the vehicle, but make for a fun ride along the way.

If there ever was a vehicle and place meant to be together, it’s a Jeep Wrangler and St. John USVI.  The laid back attitudes and rugged nature of both compliment one another perfectly.  You’d be surprised at how fast you get used to driving on the left side, although I caught myself driving on the left when we got home!

Well, if you can swing it, I’d highly recommend this trip.  Just fly into St. Thomas and you can rent a Jeep there and take the car ferry to St. John.  Or take the commuter ferry and rent once you’re already on the island.  From there it’s a short Jeep trip to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.  Have fun out there!
